It seems a lot of the reviewers are enjoying the stealth aspect.

From this review, the one comparison that comes to mind is Middle-Earth: Shadow of War. The story is forgettable, but it's so enjoyable just roaming the world killing guys that it doesn't really matter.

I think it could've been great if Shadows had been able to add a nemesis system.

"Who cares dude. I didn't mind fighting the Pope to wrestle control of a magical mind controlling ball made by aliens. I stopped caring about historical accuracy a long time ago."

And that should end all debate right there.

C'mon Ubisoft! Hope you pull this one off.

Yeah, but Warner Brothers patented the Nemesis System. That's why you'll never see it again. They wanted to make sure it was lost to history.

As far as how different you'd have to make your own Nemesis System to be able to win the inevitable lawsuit, I don't think anyone is in the mood to test it.

A lot of the buildings have chinese designs so they will feel right at home. Especially if they get the Digital Deluxe pack

Not really, a lot of people (including myself) enjoyed the earlier games because they had some historical accuracy, both with the educational guide (discovery tour) section (which was really good in for example Odyssey) that goes over a lot of historical data, but also from how the games were constructed from the ground up. I'd say that the strive for historical accuracy has been one of the most important staples for the games series and one of the things that has separated them from others of the same genre.

Nope. People are going overboard with it. None of the games are historically accurate. They have a feeling of historicity and much of the games, from the architecture to people's daily lives, are historically accurate, but the individual characters from history are not strictly interpreted, as they haven't been, once again, here.

I love the history and have played all of the educational software they've produced and loved it. There is much accuracy there. But they don't portray historical people like popes and DaVinci, etc. accurately.

The character is the least of the games mistakes. Its just the one they used to paint people complaining with a certain brush. I know better than to even use it as a reason... thats just surface level. There is far more to worry about...

I hope for those who buy it that the game is fun to play.

I was fine with playing Kassandra in Odyssey or Bayek in Origins; their stories worked well, while at the same time allowing me to engage with historical tidbits through objects, landscapes, and written texts. Similarly, I think I'll be fine playing either of the two protagonists in Shadows—as long as the game retains the level of historical accuracy the series is known for and fantastical elements are brought in cleverly.

I hope for those who buy it that the game is fun to play.

That is the gist of it. I had fun with Odyssey, but not fun with Valhalla, so it can be either a hit or miss for me. Probably did not help that I am a Scandinavian when playing Valhalla. If the user reviews portrays the game as being on par with Origins or Odyssey, It will look promising.

Seems Nvidia need to release updated drivers for the game or you might get errors.

I wonder why the PCGamer review doesn't mention the microtransactions at all.

Well i guess Shadows is more of the same as the previous games. So i'll probably enjoy it and have fun. Kinda disappointed that perhaps it only got 80% overall, but then valhalla had a similar score and i'm suitably entertained. but on the flip side, i kinda expected more, The AC series was supposed to be a sure fire win for ubisoft (AC was just made for a japanese environment) but it seems to be a passable game.


Tbh i'm not going to be getting this game any time soon. i know there will be various season passes, DLC and what not. best to wait for a GOTY edition and thats going to be half a decade at least.

Ask me again in 2030. Assuming i have a new pc to play it. Christ that makes me feel old.

The games stay the same, the wallpaper changes. Japan is just a wallpaper to them, its just a setting... how accurate it is to reality meant nothing. They should have picked a different setting or they may not have had the scrutiny they got.

GOTY is relying on there being a Ubisoft to make it in 5 years.

For those not wanting to invest the full price, it is possible to play the game for 17.99USD with Ubisoft Premium. I did not find any precise transition period for a game from Premium to Classic Ubisoft subscription, but that would also be an option to get it even cheaper before any major sales.

shame the 3rd option isn't available on Steam as at least then you guaranteed of owning the game in a few years. You essentially renting it otherwise.

if the game does badly, i suspect we'll get some step price cuts fair quickly or often. if there is no season pass or further content it will probably drop even further.

People have spoken; the game is slowly climbing to overwhelmingly positive reviews on Steam! It did not look good for Ubisoft some months earlier, and I was definitely skeptical. People are now saying the combat and stealth are solid, and that it is the best game since Origins/Odyssey. This was important for me to hear since those two games are the ones I played the most. Performance is also good, so hopefully my 3070 will be just enough to play on High with 45-60 FPS.

I'm a self proclaimed Ubisoft fan, I really do like their games but I understand they have pretty low standards of quality. They're dumb fun meant to keep you entertained not make you think or be impressed by innovative mechanics. This game seems like dumb fun and I'm glad it's doing fairly well. Ubi has had some major flops in the past few years, and while this doesn't seem to be the huge homerun they wanted, it seems to be doing okay. I'll probably give this a go sometime in the future, but currently the system specs are looking a bit too high, hopefully I can pull off Medium at least. I'll wait for patches, but Ubi is pretty notorious for abandoning support after a few short years with only a handful of updates. I wish they would spend more time and resources on fixing up their games more, fixing long lasting bugs and adding small free content updates that the community continuously wishes for.

If they had marketed game differently it wouldn't have got the push back it did.

If they had made it clear who the main character was going to be, that might have made it easier on them. Sure, some wouldn't have liked it either way but you wouldn't see as much push back from external forces

Assassin's Creed Shadows has convinced me that Ubisoft will never make a good RPG

The game may not be well optimised for PC

No spoilers this time

it drops to 40 FPS in 720p on a 5070 TI/Ryzen 7 9800x3d & 32gb of ram. While its possible to get a better system, it should run faster than it does at 720p
lets try the best GPU there is now then...

it sure looks pretty at 4k but it also drops down to 40fps as well. Barely plays at 60fps unless you turn features on.

So to play game at its best I just need a GPU that costs how much here? ... looks .... $6500. '
So, are Ubisoft going to make game easier to run or are they buying us all 5090's?

When I got a 4k monitor 10 years ago I never thought at time that there would be games 10 years from then that still couldn't run 4k at 60fps. Shame new 4k monitors can do 240hz now, so I guess we wait centuries for Ubisoft to catch up?

Wonders if that is why there is no Digital Foundry video about the PC version yet... hmm. They have 3 reviews on the console ports...

It turns a 7900 XTX into a 720p card, so maybe I just sit this out too.

so my question is this why in their story did they change KCD2 official sales number to a player count so they could make a comparison to shadows players counts??? to make shadows look good the number they changed was 2 million copies sold in just under 2 weeks to 2 million players in two weeks so shadows would look successful so why did they lie ??

Only 27% of players being on PC is surprising to me. I thought PC was about as big of a market as consoles, but perhaps consoles have a larger market share for new releases because a lot of PC players don't have modern hardware?

I would guess that Assassins Creed is one of those series like COD that appeals to a wider audience of people who dont play much of a variety of games. A lot of those people probably play on console because its easier.
